Week 10 : Transcription Work
Welcome back everyone,
We have begun week 10 with a bang!. Tuesdays meeting we covered all the events happening this week. I received an email with more details about the conference that I am working a booth at with two of my other peers. I am very excited and it seems like a very good opportunity for community outreach and to talk all about VHP. Since my last post I have continued some of the same work; reorganization has been finished for some time and I am in the process of editing. I feel as though I may have hit a roadblock. Transcription work is quite challenging and making edits is also very daunting. Since my last update I tried to dedicate my time to a two part transcription project. Unfortunately with this case it was not a continuation of a interview, but the result of a technical difficulty.
I have continued working on this transcript in order to seamlessly mesh the two together. I severely underestimated how hard it would be to do this, as the text picks up in one place and has no connection point in the opposite document. I reached out for some advice on how to best proceed and received guidance on how best to finish my editing and I will implement this once i've completed the document. Some of the things I learned that made this task easier was printing the documents out, not everyone has a two monitor set up at home so they can compare things without clicking in and out of tabs. However by printing even just one of the transcripts out I have been able to have a markup copy that won't infringe on the original documents. Another tip I have found helpful is color coding, it has helped me keep the transcript organized and allowed me to see where exactly things need to placed and, at what time stamps to place them. While patience may not be my virtue, nonetheless we stick by our motto "Semper Gumby" and try to always be flexible and open to trying new things to achieve our tasks. For one of my classes I have started a service learning project that revolves around transcription. Actually typing out the transcripts I will say is much easier that trying to fix them. I have tried to apply what i've been learning in both areas as a way to keep getting better. I am hoping to finish up the transcript i'm working on and move on to fixing the corresponding AV Logs that are also a bit confusing and messed up. I feel like this quote perfectly describes what i've been feeling through the challenges of this week. "You are your own worst Critic, but you are also your greatest Champion" ~ Andrew Giddings.
Until Next Time !
