Week 5: Continuing Work on Batches

 Hello Everyone!

We are back for week five, This week was another fast but informative meeting, No matter how fast our meetings are I love getting to see what everyone else is getting up to. Tuesdays meeting was another online meeting where we discussed a recap of work we were doing. Over the weekend I took some time to go through my bundles and chosen veteran files. There is definitely a learning curve to the organization process of Bundles. There are files missing, things mislabeled, documents in folders they don't belong in, and many more issues revolving around the contents of the documents and if those need reworking and editing. However with the help of a new updated guide that the whole VHP team received I was able to get all of my assigned files organized and will focus on potentially getting more work going.

It has been explained that this is our major focus before we move on to things like transcription. This way  we can streamline the process of how the bundles are organized. The most important thing is for them to be organized properly so that once they are submitted as final versions everything is as accessible as possible. The main takeaways i've notice is every folder has something content specific. Our documents folder contain AV Logs, Biodata sheets, Abstracts and Transcripts. The release forms folder is quite self explanatory and this holds all release forms with the veterans information. And our final folder the Interview folder contains the zoom transcripts, Closed Captioning, audio and video of the interview. Since completing my first folder of files, I will now be moving onto another folder and choosing seven more veteran folders for organization until our team can complete them all. This has been a very valuable lesson that has helped me understand what our purpose and mission is for the VHP Program.I am very excited to see where this takes me in the continuing weeks.

During our meeting we also spoke about our next field trip. I am looking forward to next Tuesdays meeting as we will be  going to the Orlando Regional History Museum, located in Downtown Orlando. We may even get a chance to tour the Greenwood Cemetery after. Though that was more of a bonus if we had enough time too. I am looking forward to sharing all the photos and information from that next visit, and hopefully continuing to learn even more valuable lessons from historians in the field.

Until Next Time !
