Week 7: More Organization
Hello Everyone,
Welcome back for week 7 It's officially pumpkin season and Midterm week! This week was another online meeting. I actually really enjoy seeing and hearing about what everyone has been up to every week. Last week was a bit slow, and admittedly I did not get as much work done as I had originally wanted to. I started work on the weekend for team VHP I continued my work in reorganizing veteran interview files. I picked up about eight more personnel files and these were more challenging than the first ones I did. I worked with my team lead to do some troubleshooting in regard to file types being incorrect, and multitudes of copies being in the wrong places. According to our guide we are supposed to delete any copies on invalid files from the folders to limit the amount of errors or duplicate files.
It was explained to me that it was okay to feel a little overwhelmed and I feel that it can be quite daunting when someone just says to delete a file out of a folder. I have been assured it is okay and this is why we keep original copies of our working folders. That being said, I have continued to go through my folders and reorganize everything in an effort to get it as close to perfect as possible. Something i've come to understand is that missing files will always be something I run into and we will try to find those later on in the process. For now our next steps after this will be to edit documents like transcripts. I am looking forward to the next meetings we have as well. Next Tuesday we have a guest speaker Brendan O'Connor coming to talk with us all. I am very excited to ask him any questions I may have about his job as it is not the typical path for most historians. There is also a PAT meeting later that afternoon, where I am sure we will get more updates about the upcoming projects we will be taking part in. Later this month be on the lookout for my updates regarding the October 25th Orange County Veterans Community Outreach Event where I will be sitting at a table with some of my peers to talk all about VHP's mission and our Story Day.
I received my midterm evaluation and I am happy to see that the work I have been putting out has been deemed as acceptable. It's crazy to believe that we are already halfway through the semester and I have learned so much. and that I have had so many opportunities to talk with individuals that have given me so much direction to reach my goals. I'm quite sad that this time happens to be flying by. But this opportunity has just continued to provide clarity and motivation for me, and I plan to be back !
Until Next Time!
