Week 8: Conference and Work

Hello everyone

Welcome to week 8, this week we were joined by the lovely Brenden O'Connor. Unfortunately I was not able to make it in person for the meeting. However I was able to be present for the zoom call for this conference with Brendan. His presentation was amazing and it was wonderful to hear about his early ties to history through trips with his father on archeologic sites, the history of the Orlando Army Air Base ,the projects around Orlando that he has been able to work on, and to get a perspective on different types of occupations that we as historians are open to. It is often people assume that historians are just educators, researchers, or work in museum, but Brenden's line of work is just as important and being a historic content creator still allows you to pursue the studies of interest that you may have. It was really incredible that he came to talk with us and it really adds to the already open door of possibilities regarding careers in this field.

In terms of work done for team VHP , this week I have continued my reorganization task on and off through the week. I have fixed several items since last weeks work. I feel that at times I have fallen behind or that maybe i'm not doing enough but I have been reminded that I took on a couple more folders than I did when I first started the reorganization process, and that everything will be okay because what we are doing takes a lot of time.I am simply put and impatient person so put pressure on myself to act fast. This week and into next week I will be focusing on the final four folders I have left and once I finish those folders I will jump into trying my hand at transcription work. I am very excited to move into something new and I have a lot of support from my team lead in case I run into any issues along the way. While this has not been the most intricate week in terms of work, I will always be grateful that I am getting this opportunity and that I have learned so much along the way.

Until Next Time!
